Side effects after stopping Keppra

Thu, 12/01/2016 - 16:50
OK, so my husband got approval to get off of Keppra. The weaning process was fine. The second day he was completely off of it, he was dizzy, felt weak and most importantly fluorescent lights were really bothering him. To the point he said his vision was as if you were drunk. When we are at home, he has no issues whatsoever. It's only when he's in a store or at work that has fluorescent lights. His primary doctor said this is just a migraine and a side effect of going off of Keppra. We went to see another neurologist (we are working out of state) and they said Keppra doesn't have side effects like that and they are concerned it's heart related. He just had a check up with his cardiologist and his SICD has no abnormal activity and hasn't since it was implanted. He only feels this way around fluorescent lights. I just don't know what to think or do. Both neurologists don't believe it's seizure related. My husband has never had migraines before and we are leaning towards maybe light sensitivity. Any help or input will be appreciated

I have the same problem with

Submitted by C0816 on Thu, 2018-05-03 - 22:40
I have the same problem with lighting.  There are three things I'm currently doing that have had a HUGE impact on this for me!1. CBD - I use Pure Kana brand2. Keto-os drink mix - while I have switched to eating organic and trying to eat keto, I realize I'm not getting enough oils for my brain and the dizzy spells have been insane - UNTIL this drink!3. Red light therapy (this is the weirdest thing, but I was open to trying ANYTHING at this point).  I use blue-light blocking glasses on my computer and got a red-light (this is going to sound really weird!!!) from the pet store (lizard section) and put it in a clip-on lamp.  When I'm on my computer I make sure to block that lighting and build up with the red lighting Years ago I would read this kind of post (mine above) and think that person was insane, but I was done with drugs after trying Depakote, Dilanton, Lamictal and finally Keppra and ALL of them having horrible side effects.  It seemed to work at the lower level, but once they got me up to the full dose I needed things got bad!  So, with this I can go minimal dose and keep seizures and dizzy spells at bay. I haven't gotten the nerve to go all the way off seizure meds and am looking for a doctor to help me ramp up what I'm doing and lower meds even more or go off.

I was made to quit cold

I was made to quit cold turkey. My VA doctor would not give me a refill until my most current MRI was read. Well I tried to explain to her that I would be out and she didn't care. Said there were no side effects from stopping this after being on it for 6 years (she reminded me that she was the doctor and her undergraduate work was in biochemistry). Well today is the 3rd whole day without any and I am still dizzy, very emotional (it does act as a SSRI) and very sick and shaky. When does it stop? Should I have been weaned off like some of these other  users?

I also have trouble with
