I read your post. I also know what it is like to go 3+ years without a seizure only to have one. As the body changes dosages my need changing and at times medications. Been there done that, As for keppra it is the best medication I have ever used in the 50+ years I have been living and dealing with epilepsy. What the neurologist said it takes time for levels to get set. Weening someone off while putting the person on another medicine takes time. Also if you are taken off a medication it can take about 30 days for the body to get rid of all the medicine from the old medicine. I was in a drug study for a new medication. I was having 2 seizures a week before and while in the drug study I had fewer seizures. The study lasted 9 months. After I was taken out about a month later I started having more seizures. I thought it was because of the generic I had gotten since it didn't look like the one I usually got. I researched the companies and went to see Doc. He looked at my research. He then excuessed himself. When he came back he stated it wasn't the generic and we meeded to add another medication to my keppra. Well I had been on the new drug and it took about 35 days for my body to get rid of the new drug. I was given vimpat which is what doc prescribed. It took me 2 months to get the lowest level up. After those 2 weeks the next level took another 2 weeks. I was then on a dosage he wanted me to try. I had been having 2-4 seizures  a day 2-4 times a week. After the first week the number of seizures was down. After the first month those same seizures were down even farther. The dosage was changed to a higher level and now I have a seizure every 8-14 days. So yes I do know that medications take time to leave the body and time to get levels set.  What most people do not realize is a medication that works for one person may not for the next and the same with dosages. Also dosages need to be raised or lowered as the body changes since most are set with the weight od the person taking them. I had my dosages raised 4 times in 9 months as I was becomming a teenager (actually from 14-15 years of age)  All because my body changed from 4'8" and 85 lbs to 5"6" and 153 lbs. So if she has changes weight or grew much her dosage might have been raised to adjust for the change. As for vimp[ast not working .... There are many others. New medications are created to work on certain types of seizures. Once approved the testign doesn't stop they are then tested to see all the other types of seizures it works on. Followed by the other medications it can be coupled with to stop seizures. I know there are many medication and almost every medication can be used with other medications to control seizures. I do hope this helps and your daughter gets the meds she needs to control her seizures  Please come back and let us know how she in doing Joe
