Safe ADHD Medications

Sat, 02/21/2015 - 17:23

My son was diagnosed with absence epilepsy at 4 years old and has been on lamictal ever since.  He always also had symptoms of ADHD but not bad enough to medicate.  He is now 11 years old and was just weaned off of lamictal and has been seizure free. We thought that was great, except now his ADHD symptoms are noticably worse and he is having diificulty in school.  We are considering medicatin but I am terrified with everything i have been reading about some of the ADHD meds triggering seizures.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

Welcome KarenThe thing yo need to do is contact his neurologist since he prescribed the lamictol. That neurologist will know a neurologist that sepcialiizes in ADHD and they can discuss medications. One knows the medications for epilepsy and the other knows medications for ADHD. When I have an issue with a medication I contact my doctors because I do know that there are medications of all kinds that can counter the medications I take. If you are just reading reviews of medications or are just checking the side effects you need to know that side effects do happen. But with most medications th side effects only happen to 5-8% of the people taking them. which means that there are 29-59% of the people taking them that have no problems with the medication and it is working for them. At least those are the numbers with medications for epilepsy. The reason I know is because I have been in drug studies for epilepsy medications. As I posted the best way to obtain the information you want is to contact his neurologist. Most neurologists know medications for many things so he might be able to come up with medications that would not counter his seizure medication. I hope this helps and he gets th assistance he needs Joe
