Question RE Dosage of Carbatrol

Sun, 05/29/2005 - 11:21

Decided to stop taking my medication a couple weeks ago.  I HAD been taking one 300mg Carbitrol a day in the AM over the last couple years without a siezure.  Figured I was all set, so after taking a pill every other day for a week or so, I stopped on a Sunday.  On Tuesday, I had 2 gran mal siezures, which really freaked out my wife.  She hadn't really seen one for 5 years, and 2 back to back were tough.

Anyways, my Neuro says to go back to taking 1 a day.  I have been taking 2 a day to calm my wife down...Think its OK to cut back to 1 pill a day again?

If the medication was working to begin with, you need to stay on it. AED's are not like a allergy or cold pill where if you take some it stops the seizures. Follow your doctor's recommendation, get back on the AED and it your seizure 'back-fireing' should be back undercontrol.
