Newly diagnosed more seizures on Rx than before. Generic to blame?

Wed, 06/24/2015 - 21:21

Newly diagnosed Hi all, I'm going on  4ks of being diagnosed with epilepsy and prescribed generic Keppa 500mg twice per day. I have recently had my 2nd seizure in 3yrs both grand mal with 2 episodes in between that were not as bad. I have had more (5) of the ones like in between the GM since starting the med. I called neuro and he just wants to increase mess to 750 twice per day. I have not done so yet. I want a second opinion, which will take 2wks. Should I wait it out, increase? Is it possible it's because I'm taking the generic? Thoughts and opinions very much appreciated. Thank you.

That is on the low end. I was on 1000mg 2x's a day and my neuro wanted to increase it to 3x's. Also, it turned out keppra didn't end up working for me no matter how much they increased the dose. Hopefully that's not the case for you.

keppra is for simple partial seizures.   try a different med.ask dr what medication choices are available for your seizure type.
