New Diagnosis, New Drug

Wed, 05/04/2016 - 00:24
Hello my name is Courtney! I have complex partial seizures and have had them since I were an infant. Now I am 23 years old. I can recall at a young age having them but in my later teen years did not feel like I had them so I took myself off my medication which was Trileptal (Side Note: I DON'T ADVISE DOING SO). I was fine for a few years but recently could feel the seizures creep back. EEG confirmed so and I am now on Keppra. I had to see a new neurologist because my previous one retired. I have been on Keppra a total of 24 hours. My concerns are that I could become depressed or have anxiety taking it. I've read a lot of articles and reviews on those side effects of the medication and it has me a little worried. Anyone have a good experience using Keppra?

Thanks for replying! Yeah I'm being very precautious right now. I've been feeling really jittery today after taking it but hopefully it will go away with time. Still though I'm keeping check of myself.

You might want to get the My Epilepsy Diary. It has things that can help you keep up with medications seizures times a note pad. If you get it give your neurologist permission to bring it up and he can view everything on it and look at the graphs which might help them with medications, dosages and procedures which can also get better control of your seizures.

Hi Courtney,One thing to

Hi Courtney,One thing to realized is epilepsy and anticipation of problems can bring on depression by it's  self. Find some thing in your life that can help make you feel better. (Example: When I had my first seizure I was 13 and as a teenager I got depressed real easy from it. I found that music was a release from that depression.) Also let your close friends know whats going on. A good friend can always help watch for signs of you getting depressed before you see it.
