Need medication information

Tue, 09/19/2006 - 13:45
Hello, I am new to this forum but hoping to find some information. My daughter has been diagnosed with absence seziures (epilepsy). She is 9 years old and in the 4th grade. Up until now we though she had ADD, and put her on medication for this and the seziures came out and we found out that she may not have ADD but this could be the problem. She is now going to begin medication called Lamitical and is new. Can anyone who has been on this medication tell me what to expect or look for. She is really scared and so am I. Thanks Tre

Hi Tre, For information on

Hi Tre, For information on Lamactil here are some pages: http://professionals.epilepsy.com/medications/p_lamictal_intro.html.. http://www.epilepsy.com/medications/p_lamictal_intro.html = the first 2 of many pages of info on the drug Children and Lamictal http://professionals.epilepsy.com/medications/p_lamictal_children.html Side Effects of Lamictal http://professionals.epilepsy.com/medications/p_lamictal_commonside.html http://professionals.epilepsy.com/medications/p_lamictal_seriousside.html Absence Seizures http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_absence.html Note.. While 70% of the cases of Absence Seizures stop by age 18, you'd do best not telling your child that, and not counting on it yourself. Remember: 30% do NOT outgrow it & your child needs love, caring, & acceptance NOW from her family. Some who go on Lamictal have few negative reactions and are immediately perfectly controlled; whereas, when some others go on the same med they have no control just negative reactions, so there is not one way that all people react. If that were the case all people with E would be completely controlled like the 75% that already are. I wish you and your daughter the best of luck. ~sol

Hi Tre, I am not familiar

Hi Tre, I am not familiar with Lamitical, but my daughter also was originally diagnosed with ADD, and put on Strattera. This is also when her seizures became noticeable. I realize now she also had seizures prior to this, but they were much smaller, and we did not know that was what it was until now. They became larger and more evident after medication. I left a post under medications that you may be interested in. It is "ADHD meds and seizures". Lori
