Myoclonic Jerks

Wed, 11/23/2005 - 04:28
I have Myoclonic Jerks. I developed them at the age of 43. I"ve been started, very slowly, on 3 different kinds of medications: Trileptal, Klonopin, and Neurontin and the Myoclonic Jerks still are not completely under control. I have times when I experience confusion. I don't know who I am or where I am or what I am doing. It lasts only about 50 seconds and then I'm really spaced out for the rest of the day. These come in clusters. I've not had these since I got settled on the most recent medication: Neurontin. Does anyone else have experience with any of this or the Myoclonic Jerks in particular?

Unfortunately yes. They started all of a sudden in about January 2014. When I say suddenly, I mean I was studying for midterm exams when they just started out of nowhere. In the two or three years from then til I was diagnosed, I've been from doctor to doctor and not one could help me. Epilepsy was ruled out, but beyond that, we were at a dead end. I've been given many explanations that didn't fit, from stress to reactions to medications. Some nights I would have anxiety attacks because of them, and the uncertainty. Finally my neurologist ruled everything else out except myoclonus. I have spastic cerebral palsy, and I'll probably have to deal with myoclonus for the rest of my life. Sometimes, it's terrifying and other times I feel like I'm used to it.  I've requested treatment a few times over the years and have been told there was none besides the muscle relaxants that didn't work well for me.

I have these type of jerks. I felt the same wway spacedout and not really all there. My jerks last though an insane amount of time. Litteraly started in April and then did not stop the constiant twitching as I call them until June. Mine was the whole left side in particular the left arm and left chest. My arm was always twitching even in my sleep. I always felt like I was intoxicated and looking at the world in a haze. I was not put on these medications I was on Keppra and Clonipine but none of them helped and only incresed my hazey feeling. I don't know if this helps you any except that you are not alone in these jerks.

Hi skyblue, I had never had myoclonic jerks, until I went in to the hospital for a VEEG. They took me off of all my AED's at the time, and a few days later, I started having myoclonics on my left side. Since going on Keppra, I have only had them occasionally. This morning, upon wakening, I had some pretty severe jerks in my right arm. My arm felt totally out of control. Lasted a few minutes, and then went away. I have had a couple of complex partial seizures in the last couple of days.
