My doctor is the nasty name of your choice.

I am SO angry with my doctor this morning. The gravity of the situation has just recently dawned on me and now I'm just so upset and annoyed. I went to him yesterday about the Plantar Wart From Hades (a saga of its own). While I was there, I had a few other things to bring up to him. First, I recently went off the birth control pill because combined with the Keppra I was getting really bad cramping. Second, I've had horrid mood swings and wanted to know if my antidepressants could be increased. In regards to the pill, he told me it was fine to stop. In any case, I've been having headaches and so the pill is bad for me to take (uhm...hello?? you KNEW I had headaches before you wrote the script). In regards to the SSRI..... You shouldn't take an SSRI if you have seizures, he said, because they lower the seizure threshold. This is especially true of the one I was on (Celexa). PROBLEM!!! He KNEW when I started the Keppra. I called him and SPECIFICALLY ASKED if the celexa would interact with the Keppra. I SPECIFICALLY ASKED if I should modify the amount of celexa I was taking. I ASKED!! HE SAID NO!!! He told me a month and a half ago that it would have NO EFFECT AT ALL!! I'm so upset! But what upsets me most of all is that all this went down when my husband was in the office with me. That is IT!! Husband is coming with me to every appointment from now on!! =( I know the only reason he was more forthcoming with his info is because my husband was there. He always treats me differently when my husband is there. My husband doesn't want to switch doctors because he's gone to this guy ever since he was a kid and because the location is so convenient. He's literally a 10 minute walk from where we live.

Hi, Doctors really can be frustrating I went through much with my neuro until I switched recently to an Epileptologist but also further away. One thing I have found is that I do not trust the Dr. to know everything about medications, so I always have a back up. I always first ask if there are any problems with the meds I am on, interacting poorly. Then I will check with my pharmacist whose job it is to know only meds. She always puts each med into the computer and checks interactions. Just a suggestion. Also, if your Dr treats you differently with your husband there and he is willing to be there great but for me I need to be able to trust and have support from my Doctor on my own as well. ((((hugs)))) to you and also, when I was on Keppra my moods were crazy, depressed et al. I honestly didn't act at all like myself but I thought it was what I was going through. Turns out, once off of it my moods improved 100% problem is I am on Dilantin which seems to reduce my seizures and depression/moods are gone but it has its own bad sides for many people. Best wishes, Rita~

Thanks. If the moods don't improve, I am going to talk to the neuro about trying something else instead. I wish I could go off all the meds completely. :/

(((((((((((big hug)))))))))) and do I ever hear you, I would love to be "med free" so to speak. They play havoc with the most basic important parts of your emotions, word recollection, ability to move with ease, etc. etc. Unfortunately for us most often the other side is worse. Heres hoping for a better day tomorrow and better meds. in the future. Best wishes, Rita~
