Meds are confusing!

Mon, 09/18/2006 - 11:07
Heres my quick story....Started having seizures at 12. Went on Depakote ER 500mg BID. Diagnosed with JME. Was pretty under control, only about 5 breakthrough seizures in 13 years. My "Doctor" told me he thought I could come off meds. Thing was I never wanted to accept that I had this 'E' and never even knew the type I had or anything. So I was all for going off meds. He weaned me off over about 6 weeks and boom, as soon as I was off, seizure! Now i'm older and starting to do research and understand the disorder, better late than never. When I went back in to the Dr. I asked if I could be switched to a different medicine because I am engaged and we are planning on starting to try and have babies next spring and had heard bad things about pregnancy and depakote. So he put me on Dilantin, starting at 300mg, now 4 wks later im on 500mg and not happy. My Myoclonic jerks are never ending now and the chance of seizure worries both me and my fiance during the day as well as at night to the point where we aren't sleeping well. I was pretty happy on Depakote and had only switched for the reasons above. I have a call into my Dr. about switching back to Dep., just worried he may not want to do it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are my worries about pregnancy correct? Please help shed some light if you can! Thank You All-Kristin
