Medication allergies

Fri, 12/29/2006 - 12:01
My current neuro wanted me to start dilantin and I ended up having a reaction to it. I took the dose of dilantin two weeks ago on Friday night (12/15) and on Sunday I was feeling better. Then during the week I started to get more of a redness and more itchy. I talked to the neuro and she just brushed it off as nothing and wanted me to talk to my general MD. I did and he gave me a hydroctizone cream. It releaved the itching, but the redness is still there. I called the MD on Tuesday (12/26) and he gave me a stronger cream. I am trying today without the cream to see if I can get by, but I don't know. I am wondering if I could be allergic to one of the current meds that I am on. I feel a little more itchy after taking a dose. My face itches, my lips tingle and my back itches. Talking to my neuro she brushed this off and said that it wasn't possible. The MD did say that there are times when drug allergies come out after years of taking a drug. Has anything like this happened to anyone else? Thank you for any advice or input. Mary
