med change seizures begin

Mon, 10/16/2006 - 11:06
new to forum. I had a stroke and many seizures a year ago. I was started on 300mg dilantin and neurontin 600mg. neuro took me off dilantin after 10 months and then started taking off neurontin. Me being new to seizures, I thought nothing of this. I had my first seizure while almost completely off meds. neuro put back on dilantin and neurontin. He then puts me on lamictal working up to 150mg while taking me off both drugs above again. I had another seizure at home, (scared me, and I don't get scared). Neuro puts me back on original med's and all is well. Anyone have similar situation and to me it seems dilantin is keeping me from seizures or is this not correct??

Just out of curiousity, have you asked your doctor why he wants you off of dilantin? Because if you're not having seizures while on dilantin and neurontin, then why take you off it?

My thought exactly, Gina

My thought exactly, Gina Marie If that was 'my' specialist, he'd be in my 'former neuro' batch. Anyone educated knows that someone with E (unless they are a child that outgrows it, or have some type of surgery) is destined to be on meds for the remainder of their lives, just like the diabetic needs insulin every day). Scott, if all is well ..congratulations! ~sol
