Lovely side effects

Don't you just love side effects? I think my personal favorite is the senior moments. You know, can't remember names, even names of your pets or family or close friends. And appointments? HA! Oh yeah, in all honesty you can say you didn't remember, even if it was written on the calender, because then you would have had to remember to look at the calender! Then to add to the memory loss it's the headaches. It's interesting how a medication that can be used to treat headaches can then cause migraines. Then if that's not enough, let's talk about dizziness. Who wants to walk straight anyways? So much easier to lay on the floor and watch the room spin. and that's just a trileptal increase. I can't imagine other meds. But why don't you share :D Share too if you can if the side effects went away and how long that took. Originally working my way up to 1200mg the side effects only lasted a couple of weeks, now working up to 1800mg they seem to be lasting longer and are a bit more pronounced. Thanks!

I know it shouldn't have, but your post made me smirk. I'm at the point right now where there is a very fuzzy line between the post-ictal effects of my seizures and the side effects of my medication. Memory? Well, that's from the seizures, not the meds. Confusion? That is from both. Headaches? Who knows. See, the headaches are an ongoing thing, and my neurologist keeps promising me that this medication or this increase will get rid of the headaches, too. This medication or this increase will help improve my memory because it's stopping the seizures. The official title bestowed upon me by my neurologist at my last appointment was "Odd. Very Odd!" So there you have it, from the mouth of my doctor, I am odd.

So, do you have the memory problems too? And the Confusion? I am new to this site and am trying to learn more about this. My memory is about all I think about. I recognize that I know people, but I can't remember how I know them. Our friends talk about a trip we went on and I can't remember. I don't usually have any seizures that I know of, but I had one Saturday, Oct. 7th, and am still trying to get back to feeling normal. Just feel weird, before and after. Terri N.

You commented that memory problems come from the seizures themselves. I've always hoped that they come from the medication (dilantin 300mg) and not from neural damage caused by seizures (gran mal). Can you back up your statement? Why do you say that? It would be very important for me to know this as I'm about to change to Tegretol due to memory problems. - Jason
