Lingering side effects from Epilim (Sodium Valporate)

Fri, 03/17/2017 - 11:23
~9 weeks ago I began taking epilim at a small starting dose (can't remember exactly what it was), after a week moved up to a slightly higher dose, then 2 weeks in began experiencing extreme fatigue so began tapering back down to the initial dose. I stopped taking it completely after a total of 3 weeks. Since then, in the following 6 weeks, the side effects have persisted and worsened. They have been very up and down; after a couple of weeks I thought they were beginning to wear off, but then proceeded to worsen, including periods of severe depression. Then a couple of weeks later my condition seemed to be improving again, before again falling into extreme fatigue and depression. In the past I've taken Keppra (Levetiracetam) and Tegratol (carbamazepine), both of which I stopped taking due to similar side effects of fatigue and depression. Keppra took about 5 weeks for the effects to wear off (but it was more gradual rather than up and down), and for Tegratol the effects wore off immediately; as it was the first time I stopped without tapering under my doctor's direction and came down with a severe case of the flu for a few days, before feeling completely back to normal. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process? In the small windows of energy I've had over the 6 weeks I've managed to be productive for a couple of hours, so it's definitely not a case of needing to push myself to get back in routine (as people are often suggesting to me!). Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Harry
