Lamictal Toxic Levels

Thu, 12/31/2015 - 21:30

Hi,

I recently had my generic medication for Lamictal changed from 250 mg 2x a day to 300 mg at night and 250 in the morning. My pharmacy had a prescription for 150 mg pills and another for 100 mg pills. I was supposed to change and instead of taking the 150 mg pills take the 100 mg pills. Unfortunately, there was some confusion and I ended up taking the 3 x150 mg tablets in the morning (instead of  3 x 100 mg pills) and 3 x 150 mg + 50 mg( instead of 2 x 100 mg pills + 50 mg). This added up to taking 450 + 350 = 800 mg instead of 550 mg that I took for 2 days until I figured that I was taking the wrong tablets.

Needless to say I had a hard time of it and am still having problems with bad headaches. I went to the hospital yesterday and my levels came back today at 14.3. I am sure they were probably much higher a couple of days ago when I tried to let it wear off on it's own. Yesterday, I felt sick and had a really bad head ache. The doctor there sent me home and told me to continue to take the same 550 mg levels I had been taking. My nuerologist is gone for the week on vocation and will be back on Monday.

My question is if my level 14.3 considered high taken in the morning? Also, is there a way to reduce the amount of lamictal in my system to normal levels. I have looked at previous blood work and saw that my levels were 9.3 on average. At one time my level for Keppra was 56 which caused me to go into the hospital thinking I had a stroke. The hospital thought I had a migraine. My doctor wants to raise my levels to 600 mg Lamictal and I currently am on 3000 keppra.

Thanks

D
