Lamictal and tegratol

Tue, 06/20/2006 - 19:54
Hi, Recently I had a grand mal so my DR increased me to 700 lamictal a day (from 500) and I am started having some side effects (shakiness, headache and lack of focus/concentration). Today I saw my dr and she wants me to take tegratol (400/day) as well as the Lamictal (reduce to 600). Any one taking both of these drugs together? Any side effects? Also since I have not taken tegratol before what are the side effects of it? Thanks for any feed back Gwyn

I have been on both of the these drugs in the past. Tegretal made me dizzy. It gave me a bit of memory problems. I was on this for a very long time. Lamicatal gave me insomnia that I had to get off. http://www.epilepsy.com/medications/b_tegretol_side.html take care Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/

Hi Gwyn I used to take Lamictal and I still take tegretol. Have been taking tegretol since I was 14 and I have had no side effects with it whatsoever. It just never controlled my seizures fully. So I do take more than the one med and it is still not fully under control. As for lamictal, I hated it. I was on it for about 2 years, maybe 3. It gave me depression, mood swings, anxiety and didn't help with the seizures. I came off it beginning this year, reducing it off slowly since November last year when I changed to a new doctor. But I have heard lamictal is good for some people. But when it's not, it's not,you know it! Make sure you keep your doctor informed of everything. Quirky
