Lamictal

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 11:55

Hi all,

So, I had my first adult seizuer in sept of 2010.  I dealt with Complex partial seizures until Jan of 2012 when I started Lamictal.  I have been on it ever since and my siezures stopped!  I have been on other meds in combination with it (vimpat, depakote, elivil, ridylin) for headaches, disruptive sleep, lack of focus and memory but never any complex parital that I know of.  I have always had auras since 2010 but no progession.  Anyway, I had a complex paritail on Sunday.  I am very surprised because I wasn't even having a bad aura.  My doctor increased my lamictal to 300mg twice a day now.  I am a little dizzy and tired from it but ok otherwise.  How much is too much lamictal?  I hate to try another drug because of the side affects that I have had in the past but I dont want to take so much lamictal that I have problems with that.  Now I can't drive which makes it very difficult to do my job.

thanks,

Jeremy

I was taking 400mg of Lamictal xr twice a day & at one point my doctors decided to bump it up to 500mg twice a day. I started showing signs of overdose when they did that. I am currently taking 300mg twice a day and trying a new medication in addition to the Lamictal xr for complex partial seizures.I am not sure what the difference would be between the standard Lamictal & the Lamictal xr as far as how much is too much and it is probably different for everyone.

I guess you think if yo uhave had auras then you should have them all the time. Well that doesn't happen all the time. I had a few auras when I first started having seizures. Those were kinda wierd things so I didn't pay attention to them since nothing ever happened after them. I had one earl one morning and about 3 hours later I had my first grand mal seizure. I haven't had an aure since then and that was back in 1963-64. As for medications and taking then 2 times a day. Generally medications prescribes 2 times a day those times should be 12 hours apart. Like 7am and 7pm, If taken at 7am and 10 pm then the jours between 7and 1o pm the dosages ate below levels needed to control your seizures.
