on lamactil for 2 weeks broke out in rash

The keppra and lamactil combo was working great for the partial seizures Last night I broke out all over my body with a red itchy rash. I'm miserable. I called the Neuro after hours and he said not to take lamactil anymore and call him in the morning so he can prescribe something else. Shouldn't I be checked out?

Not necessarily. If you look

Not necessarily. If you look at the list of side effects that came with the prescription it is on it. Side effects do happen. Keppra works well and coupled with lamactil can control seizures well. But there are other medications Keppra can be coupled with. I use keppra coupled with vimpat. That combination reduced the number of seizures and shortened the time in them.

Hi Aprilfromia,   I broke out

Hi Aprilfromia,   I broke out with a rash after being on lamictal for 4 days and my Dr. took me off the drug immediately.  I also found out that tegretol and trileptal caused the rash for me also.  I saw a dermatologist (skin specialist) and they gave me 2 different steroid creams to stop the itching and to get rid of the rash.  Whatever you do don't use soaps or shampoos with a strong scent. I was told to use Dove soap for sensitive skin which helped a lot and also use lukewarm water when bathing because the warmer the water the more the rash will spread, it took about 2 wks. for the rash to clear up and it drove me crazy. Try not to itch your skin because it will spread the rash. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!  Sue

OK

OK I have worked in drug studies where they get the side effects. Some people do get them. Most of those people who get them are put on another medication. For most meds there are generally 5-8% getting side effects. You will find all kinds of posts regarding the meds and the side effects. You probably will never see a post from the other 92-95% of the people who are taking the medication and it is working as it is supposed to. What most people do not think about is the side effects in over the counter medications they take. Your doctors (all of them ) need to know all the meds you use which includes over the counter meds. By knowing that they can prescribe meds that will not counter the medications you take.
