WelcomeAs for any extended release medication it can help you control possiable breakthru seizures, Most people see 2 times a day and they take the meds 2 times a day. They don't think or ask about those 2 times a day. Those times need to be 12 hours apart. I take mine at 8 morning and evening. If I delay the even pills and take them at 11 then hte theraputic levels buils up in my body can be off or low enough to cause a break thru seizure in the case of a seizure medication.Extended release medications can be taken once a day. But try and make sure that time is the same daily. The medication is created t obe released in your body during a 24 hour period rather then 12 hours.I take keppra but not XR. I have used several XR meds that were for my seizures and they did work just like the original meds. Relax if your neurologist prescribed XR then he has another patient taking it that he knows it has helpd.

Keppra caused me to be

Keppra caused me to be extremely tired 1-2 hours after taking it.  The XR formulation was a great improvement!!! A know a number of other people that had the same opinion.  Also, consider a Vit D/calcium suppliment to protect your bones and teeth. It may only be necessary in the winter if you live in the north and have limited sun exposure in Dec/Jan.  It appears that Keppra may inhibit VitD metabolism.
