Keppra-sleep disturbance

Thu, 07/20/2017 - 12:32
Not sure if anyone can make any suggestions but have been on the generic of Keppra for two weeks titration dose of 250mg (eventually to be doubled). Have noticed major sleep problems, might get off to sleep then wake about hour later and then no sleep until 5-6a.m. Dr suggestion staying at this dosage a bit longer. Also for last three days had zero seizures, usually 3+ a day. Then today one. Any ideas what I can do to help sleep and why weird change of seizure pattern? Thanks

both of your issues can be due to the medication. No seizures means the keppra is working to stop seizures. Having one can be due to the therapeutic levels are still not set in your body. Seizure medications are not like aspirin where once taken it goes away after a few hours. The medication builds in your body (which takes about 3 weeks) so if you are late in taking a dose or forget one the therapeutic levels can keep a seizure from happening. Keep track of the number of seizures you have and note anything different that day.You might also want to research the EF My Seizure Diary. It can help you and the neurologists can look at the graphs and other information which can help with medications and dosages and any other possible procedures...I hope this helpsJoe

Thank you Joe you've helped me make sense of what is happening. I do log everything and was going to attempt an excel stats sheet but you directing me to the diary surprised me by you saying it included graphs, so I will definitely look into that. Thanks for being there
