Keppra Side Effects, Vitamins?

Mon, 03/27/2017 - 04:47
Hi, I've just been put on Keppra after 27 years on Tegretol. Temporal lobe epilepsy, no seizures for 28 years. Tegretol had dropped by blood sodium to very low. Supposedly on Keppra 1000mg twice a day but I'm only talking 500mg at each dose because of the side effects. Cross, dizzy, tired, feeling like there's ants under the skin of my arms. Much worse with any alcohol. I never had these effects on Tegretol. Are there any vitamins that help with these side effects? And also how long do these side effects last. I'm trying to figure out if I can outlast them or whether to give up driving for 6 months and go med free to see if seizures reoccur. Neurologist will support me in this.

I've been on Keppra for the last 4 years and I still have side effects- dizziness, weird sensations, involvuntary eye movement... I only take 500mg of the XR formula once daily. I was just recently told by my endocrinologist (of all people, but not my neurologist) that Keppra is notorious for lowering your Vitamin D levels. I had mine checked when I took the name brand and my Vitamin D was in the norm, then I had it rechecked after a month of being on the generic, and it was low. See if your symptoms relate to low Vitamin D levels maybe? Might be worth a check!
