Keppra side effects (also on lamictal & topomax)

Dear Unfrgtblee I was put on keppra 500mg twice a day.Everything was fine the first three weeks.After the three weeks I couldn't get to sleep.I had 5 nights where i don't think I slept 2 hours a night.I would cry uncontrollably.I wasn't hungry.Which is a bad thing because i am a diabetic and already weigh only 105.I am 101 now.I am sure the pill does wonders for some people but it wasn't for me.Take care.Hugs.Dee

Hi Bob I will try to help you here. I know a lot about keppra and lamictal and I have been on topamax now for 11 days now, but I have done my research on topamax. I dont kno anything on Depakote, sorry. I at present am taking 1200mg Tegretol Retard, 3000mg Keppra and on 50mg topamax working my way up to 200mg a day. When done, then Ishall come off keppra if happy with topamax. I only want to stay on 2 drugs max. I used to take 300mg lamictal along with 10mg frisium and the tegretol and keppra last year. Far too many drugs! Stupid doctor!! I went to a new one and he is much better :) Anywasy, as I was saying, I know about keppra and lamictal and learning topamax. Keppra hasn't done me any harm personally. I have been on it for a couple of years now but it hasn't helped with contolling my seizures which is why I'm changing to topamax and hopefully that one will work. The only side efect I have had with keppra is it can make you anxious now and then,but nothing major. Lamictal I hated. How long have you been on it? I was on it for a couple of years. My old doctor lowered and highered and lowered the dosage etc and I didn't like it. I got depressed every so often. My moods were all over the place. Hard to control my emotions. My partner was very suppotive.He knew it was the meds.We did have rows now now and then but at the end of the day he knew it was not the real me and understood I was trying to be as normal as possible. There were times I was trying not to cry on my way home from work and when I got in the door, that's when I'd burst into tears and sob and my partner would find me at the bottom of the stairs in bits. All I could do was apologise to him for my behaviour because it was upsetting for him to see and I was annoyed at myself for letting myself get into such a state. When I changed to my new doctor last November he demanded I come off the lamictal straight away as this med does have a tendency to cause depression and anxiety in people. That doesn't mean this would happen to everyone. But it did to me. I know some people love this med and haven't had any problems with it. Topamax can also cause depression in some people but not that many. It can also change your moods. How long have you been on this one? I cant say much about its effect on me as it has only been 11 days - too early to say yet. But from my research most people can suffer memory loss, weight loss,tingling in hands and feet, moody and maybe depression. Most common is memory loss, weight loss and tingling so I've found. It took a while for me to realise what lamictal was doing to me. I dont know if it's the keppra or the lamictal that is causing your changes. It is quite possible that becuase you are taking both the effects are now happening. I would suggest you talk to your doctor but if you want to talk more, you can email if you like. IM CURRANTLY on 2000mg of keppra as well as 1000mg of eppilem i too have nasty mood swings from bad deppresion too uncrontrolable rage memory is shot i find stress is bad for my eppy setting off moodswings all u can do is try too reduce stress level too reduce mood swings and siezures
