keppra-side effects

Tue, 01/10/2006 - 20:06
I have a question about keppra but let me introduce myself. I was diagnosed with epilepsy about four years ago and I had been on many meds. I was on carbatrol for most of that time and last week I switched meds to keppra due to cognative difficulties with the carbatrol. But now I'm on the keppra for a week, about three days ago I started having a tingaling sensation in my hands and feet. It was off and on at first but now it is constant at lest in my hands. I was wondering if anyone else has experianced this and if it will go away. I did contact my doc but he hasn't gotten back to me yet. Also I have been having mood swings and i have read that is common. Also a bit of a loss of appitite. I'm just getting frustrated with my hands feeling numb it is hard to write. i work on computers so i need my hands to work.

Hi- I am on Keppra too and was on Depakote before that. I have shakes and jerks, that's why they put me on Keppra for the shaking. I too work on computer graphic design but fortunately the shakes have not affected my hands, only my legs. The mood swing thing is very real and it got worse before it got better for me. After about 4 months now everything has gotten a little better but my Doc added Klonopin at night. You might ask about an anti-depressant and a second drug and see what he says. Good luck and I hope it works out for you. Hugs Joan

I'm on Keppra 1500mg twice daily. My doctor slowly increased the dosage from 250mg Twice daily to the current dosage. It is the only seizure drug I am taking ( I also take Asacol for Ulcerative Colitis). I have simple and complex partial seizures. After I was on the Keppra for several weeks I started getting muscle twitches, mostly in my right arm and my head would sometimes shake left and right. I hardly get any of them now, so maybe it just takes awhile to adjust to the meds. Clip
