Both medications work. One is older then the other. I have used both and still use keppra. A medication that works for one person may not work for the next. Depakote came out in the 1980's. It worked good but it wasn't a medication that would control all of my seizures which is why I went to another medication.Keppra is becomming the go to medication for a lot of neurologists. It reduced teh number of my seizures as well as the time in those seizures and postictal time. What used to be 2-8 minutes in the seizure is now 2-8 seconds. The time to get back to normal was 5-45 minutes is now 10-15 seconds. I can have a seizure while discussing an issue with someone and they wouldn't know I had one unless they knew exactly what to look for.I was one of the patients that Doc wrote a perscription of the generic keppra. It too works just as if it were name brand. I have had 4-5 different manufactures medications without any problems. I hope this helps Joe
