Keppra

So, after having my first grand-mal back in June I was put on Neurontin. But I was still having, motor and focal seizures, so i was sent to a neurologist in germany (i am overseas) to see if she thought i had epilepsy or i was just crazy. She wrote down complex partial epilepsy and prescribed me Keppra. Does this sound normal? I have been on the keppra and ok i guess but i am extremeley exhausted almost always!

ya, usually keppra is an secondary med. the first like month on kepp. you'll feel that way, then if they up the dosage you may be irritable. i have simple partials(only) and have been on K for almost a year. I LOVE it, but after my dose was adjusted, I had trouble sleeping and had the blues, so i had a 'secondary' diag. of neurotic depression and take trazodone for it all. But yeah, the diag sounds alright as well as the treatment Sunshine and Daisies, ~Cass "There is no exquisite beauty without some strangeness in the proportion" -Edgar Allen Poe

Keppra

I was really tired also after being on Keppra for two days. Then the side-affect went away after three more days. I did look into the half-life of the drug and how soon it would be maximumly absorbed into my system. So along with my doctor - I started taking Keppra at the best time for me so that I can still function with my two kids running around the house. I still am more tired taking Keppra than I was earlier when I was just taking Lamictal. Now I do need 2 more hours of sleep a day than before- BUT the seizures have stopped completely!! I am so amazed and excited by this. I have had seizures for 35 years. And finally I have found a drug that has stopped them completely!! Anyone interested in talking more, please feel free to email me at chgordan@earthlink.net. Best Hopes for all!!

What is epilepsy?

Katheren, Epilepsy is usually diagnosed after a person has had at least two seizures that were not caused by some known medical condition like alcohol withdrawal or extremely low blood sugar. Keppra is one of the anti-epileptic medications commonly used for people having complex partial seizures. So yes that does sound normal. As for some of the common side effects of keppra, they are sleepiness and loss of strength and energy. I would like to ask you, how long have you been taking keppra? Bruce (link guy)
