Increasing Keppra Dosage

Tue, 12/15/2015 - 12:12

Hello everyone. I've been on Keppra (500 mg 2 times a day) for 9 months. It has been effective in preventing complex partial and grand mal seizures, but I believe I am still having simple partials. I've been holding off mentioning this to my neuro because I felt like maybe I was just associating everything with E since it's a relatively new diagnosis for me. After experiencing this for some time, I've decided it's best for me to talk to her about it. I suspect she will want to increase my dosage, especially since I'm on the low end. I am extremely nervous about this because of the potential side effects that come along with it. I'm interested to hear anyone's experience with increasing the dosage of this medicine. Also, if your neuro increased it because of simple partials only, did he/she intially increase it by another 500 mg? How did that affect you physically and mentally? I am aware that medicines affect us all in different ways, it's just really helpful for me to hear real life experiences. Thank you.

I've had 3 grand Mal seizures in my life I'm 33 I was lucky enough to get brain cancer last year that's the cause I had my last seizure in may it's now December I've been in remission since May my neurologist increased my kepra from 1250mgs to 1500 as my leg keeps going numb I thought it was peripheral neuropathy due to the chemo but my neurologist doesn't think so as he reckons it would be numb all of the time I want to self increase to 1750mg to see if this helps as for feeling strange or easily angered I've not experienced that what's everyone's thoughts on my increase?
