I need advice with Lamictal!!!

Fri, 06/05/2015 - 11:17

I was on Lamictal for 7 years with no issues at all. A few months ago, I started getting a rash that covered my entire body, raised red itchy bumps. I saw an allergist who didn't think it was anything to worry about, then after that remembered my doctor mentioning that Lamictal has a very serious rash. So I saw my neurologist who freaked out and took me off of all my medications until the rash went away. The rash continued, and after a week or so I began having seizures. I requested we try putting me on Dilantin, since that had worked for me before we put me on Lamictal 7 years ago. He agreed, and over the past two months we have been trying to get me into therapeutic levels. However, it has been very difficult and I have had nearly ten seizures since starting it, the most recent on just last night. My allergist says I have chronic hives now and put me on Allegra to take care of those, and said I could go back on Lamictal because it's not what is causing the rash anymore (if it ever was) but if I had been allergic at one point, I'm afraid that I will flare up again and it could go into Steven Johnsons Syndrome. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I'm calling my neurologist later today to discuss going back on Lamictal. Thanks!

You need to think a little

You need to think a little your neurologist is thinking one thing and your algerist is thinking another thing. WHen you talk to your neurologid=st have he contack your other doctor so they can see what the other is doing and why.I have always had my doctors know what the other doctors do and why as well as the medications I take. That also includes over the counter meds since they to can cause problems with medications you take.
