I AM ALWAYS TIRED

Thu, 08/13/2015 - 17:19

I am taking lamictal and trileptal and they make me EXTREMEMLY tired. I get plenty of sleep and still fell drowsy and not well rested. I can barely get out of bed and when I do get out of bed I feel like a zombie.I hate walking around all day feeling like this. It really impaires me from doing the things I want to do.It makes people think I'm lazy but it's actually not like that at all. I would love to do things normal people do but I really have zero energy. When I tell my doctor he just brushes it off and says all epilepsy medictions have that side affect. What can I do? Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi,I have been on many

Hi,I have been on many medicines since originally diagnosed age 12, now I'm 55.  I would suggest that your Doctor evaluate your medication levels and have your blood levels taken right away.  It could be a start that your medicine levels in your body are too high.  Also another thing that I've run into is the Doctors always want to try a new pill as soon as it comes out.  Example that I ran into was the medicine "Fycompa".  It was suppose to better then it's counterpart.  Well for me the "Side EFFECTS" caused to many problems.  I was always very tired also, and when I walked I was always feeling unsteady on my feet.  After a fall and seizure which required 10 stitches in my forehead I was checked out inpatient at the Hospital and my medications were evaluated (Fycompa was discontinued).  Dr. Started me on another new drug to add to my current meds. Called "Aptiom".   Well I'm through with this one too in about a week.  I've been off balance a lot again, fallen several times due to unsteady feet, and even when washing my face at home in the bathroom I fell and hit my forehead on the faucet handle and cut it.I just about got to the point to tell my Doctor to forget the new meds, have me back on my regular doses of meds I was on about 3 years ago.  I currently have a VNS, been diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis, and have had a tumor removed about 4 years ago.  I know the doctors want us seizure free but currently I have Complex Partial Seizures, pretty well controlled until this new med change, and I'm 55.  A very mild starring seizure every 2 weeks will be ok with me.  I've never had any grand-mal seizures ever.  A slight cough, turn to the right and disorientation is all that has happened.   I'm sorry to be so wordy, but I just wanted to tell you a little history about seizures that I have gone thru myself.Signed,Rob
