How long on Keppra?

Wed, 11/02/2016 - 00:59
Hey there, Looking for some advice on how long I should stay on my keppra. Currently taking 500mg twice a day and although it's done a great job at controlling my seizures it's been a real pain in the ass in terms of side effects. I'm ALWAYS tired and my anxiety has gotten much worse on it. Anyway, I've had two seizures. The first at 23, a grand mal where I lost full consciousness. I had an eeg, MRI, catscan, they tested my blood sugar the night of and all was normal. So moved on. Second time was exactly 7 months later and same thing it was a grand mal. So they put me on keppra and it's been about a year and a half since my last seizure. I never had any since being on the meds not even partial. My doc says since I was testing normal all around that I should give it 2-3 years on the meds then I could make the decision to come off it. I'm a bit nervous but wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. How is it coming off keppra?I'm leaning towards three years just to be safe. I understand that I'm considered seizure prone but given my case of testing normal and my luck on the meds I'm wondering if it's possible to live a seizure free life without the medication.
