Hello everyone im new to this community. Ive had great mal seizures since i was 16. I am now 22. I use to take dilantin once a day and i was having one great mal once a year it seemed. It gave me so many bad side effects like my liver and my gums where over growing, so the doctor recommended me to wing off dilantin and try vimpat. I took vimpat and i had a seizure, so the doctor gave me 800mg of aptiom to take with vimpat. I was noticing i was twitching and jerking my limbs more frequently. And then one morning i had a bad great mal again. So my doctor took me off aptiom and gave me Trileptal with my vimpat. I am now taking vimpat 200mg and Trileptal 300mg morning and night. I havnt had a great mal and its been a month. But i am having really bad blanking out. It happens randomly. Sometimes im walking and i feel like im falling and i trip or lose my balance. Its happening more frequently and ive never really had this. Im going next week to the hospital for a video eeg for 5 days. I dont know if its the vimpaat that makes me feel like this? If any one can please help or knows how i feel please comment.

welcomeIt takes time for your body to get used to the theraputic levels set. Once that is dome and you are still having seizures then the neurologist may prescribe a medication that can be coupled with the main medication. If that combination doesnt work another medictions ,ay be tried. Now there are periods of time that needs to be watched. Just because you have been weaned off a medication it doesn't mean that medication is completely out of your body. I was in a drug study and once off the study 4-6 weeks later I started having more seizures. I had gottem my generic keppra and it was a different maker. So I set up an appt with Doc to discusss this issue. I told him about when the seizure increase started and that it was about the same time I was given a new generic so I thought it might be that, I also researched all the generics I had used in the last 5 years. He listened carefully to me and my concern. He then excused himself for a few minutes. When he got back he stated it wasn't the generic.I must have had a puzzled look on my face. He told me that in the last 6 months I had been taking the real drug and not a plecabo. He stated it takes 4-6 weeks for all the medications to leave the body oce it is at a theraputic level. In other words if not watched you could have 3 medications in your body while trying to get the theraputic levels of one built up. Medications designed to stop seizures can also cause them.If this were me I would go to the get help section and use the diary. Watch the video and give your neurologist permission to bring it up. It can help him with dosage levels, other medications and possiable procedures that can help get you seizure free.. I hope this helps and you get your seizures undr control Joe
