Hair loss

Wed, 02/08/2006 - 16:24
My almost 4 year old was diagnosed and has been on Depakean for about 2 months now. We noticed his hair was not as thick as it normally is. About 2 weeks ago we were bathing in the bath tub and I felt a grainy feeling in my hands after washing his hair. It turned out to be his hair! A clump of fine hair. It was very scary! When I told the neurologist he decided to lower his dose. It has been a week since we lowered his dose, but hair is still falling out! Has anyone else had this problem???

Hi - my daughter had the same thing happen when she was on Depakote. Once she went off of it, it took a while, but the hair grew back as thick as ever. It did take time to get the med out of her system, and for the hair loss to stop. Hello Heather, I am on Depakote which is in the same family of meds. I have the same problem. Hopefully with the decrease in his meds, the hair loss won't be as bad. Wishing the best! -Spiz
