Gotta question...

Wed, 06/08/2005 - 21:58

Hello to all,

I have complex partial seizures due to a brain abcess I had in 1990. Since 1992 I started having seizures due to the damn scar tissue. Was a pain in the butt having to change medications so friggin often trying to find the right ones that would work together, but finally in 1998 my doctor at the time  dropped one medication (god knows what it was since I had been on a milliion of them) and put me on Lamictal along with the Depakote I was taking. Finally those two medicines did the trick and I started having less seizures, sometimes I would be seizure free for 6 months, but most of the time it would be every 2-3 months. Once I did have a seizure it would last 2 days, four the first day and one the next. Then that would be it until the next go round in another 2-3 months. This process lasted for almost 6 years which was great until this April where things changed. For some unknown reason I started having seizures a little more often like every two weeks. I know there are alot of answers out there with books and doctors, but I'd actually like to ask people who actually have this problem. The question we've all been waiting for....  Why might my seizures have acted up?

Thank you for your time in reading this and I hope all is well with everyone.

Hi!  Sorry to hear that things are not going as well as they had been.  My husband had the same problem exactly, he would do real well on a medicine (or two or three) for a while and then out of the clear blue start having seizures.  He seemed to tap out on medicines left and right.  His doctor explained that it was probably that his body got "used" to a medicine and then ignored that it was there.  I don't have any clear cut answers but we do know what you are going through and how extremely fustrating it is.

I wish you the best of luck.
