Getting off Phenobarbital ?

Wed, 01/14/2015 - 16:49

Hi, I'm new here but have this question/problem or what ever one wants to call it. My doctor has stated that if I want to get off phenobarbital it is an option with some risk. And he brought it up to me not me to him. I have been seizure free for 13 years On phenobarbital. He sees no sign of seizure be that by brain scans or physical exam but that really is not anything new. Nobody has really seen any signs of seizure by brain scan or physical exam in me. The last time I went lights out I spent 2 months in severe anxiety as part of the aftermath and was told I could not to drive for six months. Since then I found out I have a Gluten Allery and have gone gluten Free. Anyway, regardless, the Doc says in people like me there is a 1 in 5 chance that a seizure could return. To me that is 4 in 5 that it won't. Is it worth the risk ? I've been on phenobarbital for maybe 30 years now.
