Tue, 07/25/2006 - 21:47
Hi everybody, I was a facilitator in philadelpohia for many years helping people cope with this. Also on the board of directors years ago. I ant to switch from brand tegretol to generic because the cost is getting out of hand. Aren`t there many fillers in generic? michelef

Hi Michelef In phila huh? I used to go to see my doc at JEFF. I also had my brain surgery at Jeff and Graduate(not there anymore). Many of the drugs can be different and have different ingredients. SO you do have to ask your doctor if they are basicly the same or not, before you change your meds around. take care Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/

Generally, if you began on a the generic version of an AED med, you are fine. But if you began with the name brand version, switiching to generics is a huge risk. I've done it (bought the generic version of a med when it came out) and, the generic was like a completely new med and caused an immediate negative reaction. Here is some info from epilepsy.com http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/medicine_cost.htmltwice Hope that helps ~sol
