Generic Keppra Side Effects

Mon, 07/21/2014 - 10:32

After paying $400 - $450 per month for several years for brand name keppra, I decided to try generic (again). I tried generic before and did not like how it made me feel. I have been on generic for one week and the following has appeared:

  • Extremed tiredness
  • Runny nose
  • Sleeping issues
  • Weird dreams
  • Body aches

I called my neurology doctor this morning and the nurse practioner called back to say that those items are not side effects to generic keppra and that I should contact my regular doctor. However, what I have read online - many of those symptoms are side effects. I was wondering how long does it take for side effects to start disappearing before I make a decision to go back to brand name.

Hi Karen As for side effects they do happen. However if you have been on keppra (name  brand) you might not have side effects unless your dosage was raised. If that does happen your body would normally get used to it after 2-3 weeks. I also had funding problems while on keppra. Docs' Assistant was always saying name brand only. Well she isn't taking hundreds of dollars worth of meds each month. I did discuss the issue with Doc and he also wanted to know if the generic worked like name brand. I was his test  and I was to fill out paperwork for the first week of using the generic. The same book used in drug studies. Write down anything that was different on ant day. I took the book back the next month. No changes or no difference. I have done research and I have used 5 diferent makers of generic keppra. So with me no side effects and the generic works just like the name brand keppra.
