EPILEPSY AND MARIJUANA SOS

Tue, 06/30/2015 - 02:10

I got like seven-nine hits of a blunt. It was marijuana, I'm not sure if there's strands of something in it. But anyways I had a legit panic attack, I thought I was going to die, and I know heart beating fast is an affect of marijuana but it hurt! And everyone else said I was acting weird and other people that smoked it were fine. But anyways that was three days ago and my heart STILL feels weird. I dont even know how to explain it. Does my reaction have to do with the Keppra I'm taking? I'm also taking Singulair for asthma. Something is weird, and I dont know what to do

It took me awhile to find a good type that worked for me. I can only smoke indicated. When I didn't I would have seizures off and on for two hours or so. Hope it helps.

I can sympathize, and am sorry you had this experience. Unfortunately, many regular to frequent users of marijuana can be negligent about the effects it may have on initial users. Jimmie makes some good points. The main one being that 7-9 hits off a blunt for someone unused to smoking MJ is a massive amount. I have been using MJ for around eight years to help treat my epilepsy and even NOW that amount would have similar effects on ME. Also keep in mind, although JMA has mentioned the possibility of it being laced, (something possibly worth getting blood work for) the likelihood is very low. However, with that being said, one thing to avoid at all costs however, are synthetics, they are extremely harmful and even a small amount can cause the symptoms you describe and worse. Asthma definitely contraindicates MJ as it is very hard on your respiratory system when smoked, other options exist though (e.g. baked goods, vaporization etc.) Strains play an important role with the effect marijuana has as well. Some more powerful than others, some eliciting different physiological responses, depending on body chemistry as well. It is important when using MJ to understand how your body reacts to it, and that moderation, is a good idea when dealing with substances you are new to or do not understand. Your medication may very well have a role in this as well. Based on my experience, it sounds like you experienced a major panic attack, I've had them too. I agree with Epihelp, as well. Lay off them blunts! Imagine you take one hit off a joint, and compare that to taking 10mg of medication, then imagine that one hit is instead taken off a blunt, three to four times the diameter of the former. So instead of taking your intitial prescribed dose of 10mg, you've taken 40mg, then you take 7 of those all at once. That's like picking up your initial prescription from your doctor, going home and taking 280mg of your medication for the first time! 28 times the amount your doctor prescribed! I know that's a really strange sounding analogy, and not totally accurate in comparison, but it does make you think about being mindful of your condition and how sensitively your reaction can be. Hope everything is sorted out. Regards.
