Does anyone have with lamotrigine overdose?

Fri, 02/06/2015 - 10:27

I've been on lamotrigine for several years without too many problems, normally 225 mg 2x/day. I accidentally took two doses one morning (450 mg about an hour apart) and suffered a panic attack. Does it seem possible that it was actually an overdose, or related to the medication snafu?

You are not the only person

You are not the only person that took some of their meds because they forgot they took them. I have done the same thing. There have been times when I had a few minutes to get out so I could catch the bus and get to work only to find out I forgot to take my meds. I was ok considering I always had a days supply at work just for episodes like that. I have paniced at times when I took them back to back, That ia I know too much medication can be just as bad as too little. Call your neurologist and ask him what he thinks might happen. His answer might surprise you since your body has levels of medication in it which can hold off for a day or so. I know that with me the only thing that might happen is being a little more drozy on that day

I am on a very high dose of

I am on a very high dose of Lamotragene  (150 2x a day and 300 at bed time) and I have been lucky enough to never have  had side effects because I too have taken too much before.  My dr. was really concerned when we went up that high.  She stressed that this is the highest dosage I should take.  So I don't think that it's unusual for you to have that type of reaction.  I on the other hand wish she would let me go up - I would like to be able to take 300 2x a day and 150 1x a day but she says no and so we keep adding on different meds that don't work.  It makes a big difference when I take that extra 150mg as to how I feel.
