Hi  Vicki,

What hospital did you have your surgery done at?

I had left mesial temporal lobe epilepsy for 31 years myself.  I went through all of the pre-surgery tests...MRI, CAT scan, Video EEG, Neuropsychological testing, etc.  December 15, 1994, while I was fully awake, my left hippocampus was removed.

My question to you, was your surgery done while you were awake so the doctors could test you and make sure they didn't remove anymore than was necessary?  Why did they not remove your hippocampus?

I had my ant. left temporal lobe first, in 1976.  I was seizing thru out most of the surgery.  When they did they did the hippocampus in 1991, they went back to the 5th cranial nerve, I was out again.  They never removed the uncus.  They found that my focus was in my speech center, and now I am in a medication study and it seems to work.  Hopefully others can try it and it will work for them it is similar to Keppra.  I am having very subtle to no seizures at this time w/ this medication.
