Does alcohol/sugar *raise* or *lower* Lamictal levels??

Thu, 07/06/2017 - 00:37
Hey all, so I've been trying to find the answer to this question, and it seems to be really hard to pin down. There's no question that alcohol affects Lamictal (and all AEDs), but EXACTLY how?? I don't drink and never really did, so I actually want to know the effects of sugar/sweeteners-- they are processed in the same way as alcohol through the liver, the effect just isn't as extreme (if anybody wants to see the studies I will post them, there are many many many of them.) I figured that people would be more likely to know about the effects of alcohol. I'm a sugar addict. I don't even understand why anyone would care about alcohol or illegal drugs when sugar exists!!! I'm good about it most of the time, but there are times when it's not so good... so basically, I just want to find out what the effect really is of alcohol/sugar on the med levels. I take 250 mg. of Lamictal a day, and when it works, it really works, but it seems like ANY tiny little thing can throw it off... so I just feel like I have to pin down EXACTLY what affects it and EXACTLY how that happens. If anybody knows, please share! :)

Hi,The Lamictal for some reason caused my son's blood glucose level go to very low (55 on a full stomach). This in turn caused him seizures and we had to discontinue Lamictal. Hope this helps some.

If you can pin down what

If you can pin down what effects it.  Let me know!I quit drinking about 9 years ago.  Love my sweets.  Been on Lamictal for almost a year.  I agree when it's working I'm buzzing along, occasionally manic.    I've had 3 episodes where I blackout for 2-3 seconds, enough to fall over.  Then get right up and not realize anything happened.  Then Sleep...lots of sleepAlmost once a month I'll have a day that I just doesn't feel right, then Sleep on and off for a day.  I also believe the "episodes" have different degree of intensity.  I increased my Lamictal recently and that seems to make the "episodes" less severe.  Here is my list of possible triggersNot enough sleep . Heat.  DehydratedStressDiet?? Sugar??  If the Thunder don't get you the Lightning will .
