DIET THERAPY EFFECTIVE without MEDS?

Wed, 01/28/2015 - 23:15

Hi...my daughter - age 4 - has atonic seizures with myoclonic effect. Ember will have 60 to 70 per day; each lasting less then 3 seconds; some are drop seizures. Currently not successful in controlling/eliminating them.  Would rather go with diet therapy than medications.  Any thoughts on the GARD diet?  Modified Atkins?

There are a couple of diets

There are a couple of diets that can assist on helping control seizures. Medications also control seizures. Whth medications it takes time to find the medication and dosages needed since there is no one size fits all medication. Each persons seizures is different and each person is different. It took time and trial to find medicatins that controlled my seizures. Currently I am on Keppra and vimpat. I have been on many different medications and medications coupled with other medications. If yo uare younger then 35 then you need to discuss this issue with her neurologist. The neurologist knows the diets and can discuss them with you and let you know more about them and just what it takes away from her in the forms of different food groups.  You posted   Currently not successful in controlling/eliminating them.. You didn't post the number of medications or the number of different dosages your daughter was on with each medication. Oh and what is "CONTROL" to you? I know my doctor can say my seizures are controlled. I also think they are controlled. I still have seizures but they are controlled to the extint that I have one about every 8-14 days. The seizures are now seconds long. I can have one while talking to you and you would not know it. I had one while discussing something with my PCP and he thought I was thinking of another word to use. In other words he was amazed when I told him I had one since about 8 years ago I would not have finished the sentence and would have needed 20 minutes to get back to normal.  You can find the diets in this site. One is the modified adkins diet and the other one I forgot the name of. I however wouldn't go on either since I am older and know that I wouldn't hold to either of them. Doc also knows I wouldn't and yes he did discuss the diets with me. I hope this helps and she gets the assistance she needs and her seizures get controlled Joe
