Depakote ER Question

Fri, 09/29/2006 - 20:12
My doctor just put me on Depakote ER. Just curious about the hair loss. Is it thinning or losing all of your hair? Also, are there any other side effects that is worth noting? Thanks

I have been on Depakote ER for about a year. I have experienced very little hair loss. I have had a little weight gain, and if you are on too much medication you will begin sleeping WAY too much. That is about all I have experienced! It is really not bad.

Has it controlled your seizures pretty well? BTW, I will be taking 1,000MG in the morning and 1,000MG at night when the transition period is over.

Mom of 17 yr old boy diagnosed with JME in Nov 2005. My son is on 750 mg of Depakote ER. He initially was on 1000 mg nightly but was reduced after a month. He was ramped up quickly -- within 4 days. Initial side effects were being extremely tired and some weight gain, about 20 lbs., but he could afford it. This was Nov/Dec 2005. He was reduced to 750 mg in January 2006. He says he feels back to normal. He had very little hair loss. I hope you have good luck with Depakote ER. Suzy
