Depakote for 4 year old

Thu, 05/28/2015 - 19:40

Hello,

Our 4 year old son is on Ethosuximide and it doesn't help control his seizures. Our neuro is recommending Depakote. I would like to know your experience with this medications. General side effects? Our doc said it can affect liver function and that needs to be monitored. Are the first few weeks expected to be hard till the body gets adjusted to the meds? Would love to get some pointers...while I know everyone reacts to meds differently..I'm just so anxious.! Apparently my son has a rare form of epilepsy caused by KCNT1 gene mutuation and many meds won't suit especially the ones that work on potassium channels.

Thanks!
