Depakene and crankiness is 1yr old

Tue, 04/25/2006 - 09:55
My 1yr old son was put on Depakene in march it has helped so much. But the DR upped the dosage yesterday and now he is just cranky now all of the time there is nothing I can do to help him. Is this a sideaffect or just that Evan is one and a boy. If anyone has any info on Depakene please let me know. Thanks Gill

Hi again, Zak had the same effects. Sometimes I think they'll get past them and "normal" out. Sometimes they don't-we took Zak off the Tegretol because of that. When I asked the DR about it, he said that it was normal for the crankiness, but then I finally insisted on showing him what I meant by cranky and then he felt very sorry for me and told me I could give him benedryl to help knock him out while we waited for it to go away. Of course you shouldn't do that without talking to your DR, but Zak cried uncontrollably for months!!! It was miserable for him and for his poor old parents! It will probably go away! Good luck, I feel your pain!

Thanks Jolie, I glad that someone else has gone through this and that I am not the only one. I hope that Zak is doing well at this time Evan is doing great except for the crankiness and crying. Talk to you later. Gill
