Can weight gain affect medicine?

Tue, 11/11/2014 - 23:19

Up until about 3 months ago I had gone almost 2 years without having a seizure. I've had 3 in the past few months which is more than I've ever had in that amount of time and they seem to have gotten a little worse. I have gained probably around 60 lbs in the past year or two and I'm wondering if that would have anything to do with my lamictal not working as well!

Yes it can be a factor. Back when I was a teen my dosages were changed 4-5 times in about 9-10 months because I was growing. I changed from a kid 4'6" 85 lbs to a teenager 5'8" 135 lbs. Medications and dosages are generally set with weight so a 60 lb change can affect your medications. Contact your neurologist and ask him if your medications are right or do you need to raise or lower the dosage.
