Can keppra stop working?

Mon, 12/01/2014 - 11:55
Hello everyone,

I had a seizure 14 years ago, when I was about 12 years old. 2 years after my seizure I started having sensitivity to lights, patterns and felt like my legs were going to collapse. My neurologist but me on keppra 500mg 3 times a day. And I felt perfect after!

About 3 months ago I started to feel dizzy once in a while then my symptoms got worse, dizzy a lot more, headaches, sensitivity to lights and patterns. And now I can't do anything anymore. I have stopped driving and going outside.

My family doctor doesn't know what it is, he increased my dosage and I had side effects such as feeling tired all the time and muscles hurting. He also said maybe it's the medication causing the problem.

I am waiting for my neurologist appointment now and waiting for an eeg.

If anyone can help me please respond!!

A medication can stop working

A medication can stop working and that does not mean just seizure medications like Keppra. If your appt is with your neurologist then tell him what has happened. The dosage could be wrong now and it can need to be raised or lowered. There are times a person body gets toxic on medications and they need to stop taking it. With me that medication was Dilantin. But then I had taken it for about 35 years. I have a dear friend how had been taking medication for his heart and he has had to stop 2 different meds. So YES a medication can stop or a body can get used to the dosage needed and at times raising or lowering the dosage can work. At other times the medication needs to be changed. I do hope this helps and you get the assistance you need
