Can CBD &/or THCA help with Absence Seizures??

Mon, 09/12/2016 - 15:01
Our nine-year-old daughter has Absence Seizures. We have tried all the major types of drugs prescribed by her neurologist. She has experienced every single negative & bad side effect with these poisonous medicines. We've taken her off all meds, she is still having atypical seizures. Now, we are considering the cannabis plant. Does anyone have any feedback for us in connection with Absence Seizures and CBD's &/or THCA meds? Thank you~ K

Welcome KarenSo your 9 yo daughter has absence seizures. You didn't say how long she has had them nor tell us how many major types of drugs she has tried. Did you let her body get used to the medication and it to build up to the therapeutic level the neurologist wanted? Seizure meds are not like aspirin where once taken it goes away after a few hours. Seizure meds build in the body so if a dosage is missed you might not have a seizure. You tried major types of drugs.. A medication that works for one person may not for the next. Look at all the different things that can be taken for a heac ache. Look at all th different nose sprays. Each and every person is different. Do all people eat the same things and love them the same way? That answer is NO. So if she wasn't on any of the medications for at lease 3 months then the neurologist didn't have enough time to evaluate if the medication was reducing the number of seizures. Unless that was done then the neurologist didn't have a chance to raise or lower the dosage. Understand that too much medication is just as bad as too little. When I was first put on medications I was 4 years older then oyur daughter. It took a few months before Doc Ben adjusted the dosage. When I first started them I did have a side effect but it went away. It did reduce the number of seizures I was having. After the dosage adjustments the number of my seizures. I also had more then just absence seizures. I had petite mal (absence seizures) focal seizures (land in with absence. partial, simple partial complex partial, generalized and Grand Mal (tonic -clonic) seizures. So if I could try medications and get over the side effects and waite for the adjustments and my seizures were reduces from 6 a week to 3 a month why not look at the medications that they know will help rather then trying to stop al her seizures wirh something that has not been completely tested and is not out for use in all states? Those medications that are out today and working with doc has gottem my seizures down to 1 seuzure every 8-14 days. Those seizures last a few seconds. I can have one while talking to you and you would know nothing about it. My PCP didn't when I saw him a year ago.I hope this helps and if you do go to CBC that it is available in your state.Joe

Hello my son suffers from

Hello my son suffers from absence epilepsy and has for 3 1/2 years. We have been on depekote, topamax, zarotin, lamictal, and onfi. None of these medications worked. He was having up to 2,000 seizures per day and was taking 10 pills per day due to his metabolism "burning" up the medications so fast. However he also suffered every side effect you can think of. I had enough and turned to CDB. I tried some brands that didn't not work for him because they had fillers in them olive oil, fish oil, coconut oil. Eventually I found hempworx! No fillers, 80% CBD, non GMO, gluten free. We got his bottle at hempworxs4us.com.so far he is doing great on it. He takes 10 tiny drops under the tongue 3 times a day. He's not a big fan of the peppermint taste but says it beats pills any day!

In your opinion do the CBD

In your opinion do the CBD oils help with Mal Petit or grand maul seizures!?  I have a son who they just prescribed oils to and now seeing that when mixed with.onfi there could cause problems. I'm truly just at a loss and don't know if this is the right decision. His seizures were minimal and now that he has been taking this they have been increasing!! Friendly advice from all would help.
