Autism & seizure meds

Mon, 09/25/2017 - 17:10
Hi all, new here but desperate. My son is 16 with autism, has limited speech. Year and half ago he had 2 seizures and started on Keppra. 7 months ago started seeing defiance at school and very tight squeezing of people. Started on Lamictal to help stabilize mood in May. He's had 2 rage incidents with mom & dad where he yells and hits us. Totally out of character! Not sure which drug is causing or combo. Goal has been to titrate off Keppra while getting on Lamictal. Any experience out there among the group. He can't tell me how he feels on these drugs so it's been a major challenge! Wondering about the "Keppra rage".

Hello,Has your son had an 48 hour EEG done or an EEG as an in patient? Perhaps the sudden rages are due to electrical discharges and not just behavior. My son has autism and developed epilepsy 4 years ago.. we continue to struggle with meds, side effects and seizure control. He did have an EEG as an in patient. The EEG revealed that his sudden rage/irritation was due to electrical discharges, he wasn't able to tell us that he was hurting and acted out. Take care & best wishes!

Hi! Thanks for your comments.

Hi! Thanks for your comments.  He had an EEG after his 2nd seizure 18 months ago but not since.  I will ask his neurologist about it, Thanks.  Have you found something that helps your son with the sudden rage?
