Aptiom Medicine New Users ? (Side effects)?

Sat, 09/26/2015 - 23:34

Aptiom Medicine new users , (Side Effects ?)   I currently have been put on "Aptiom" seizure medicine 3 weeks ago.  I started out at a 200mg. Pill 1 per night, and after 10 days worked up to 800 mg. per Doctors order.  Well now the "side effects are starting.  When I walk I feel unsteady on my feet, and I've fallen several times.  My Doctor was notified this past weekend, well, Monday I'm going to have a blood level test again.  When your an Epileptic on seizure meds, well you might as well get used to this for your safety.  Many times when there are problems you could be "Toxic" on a med.( too high of dose, to much in body) or not enough med in your body.  Be careful with what you are doing, and if you are not happy with results of something, Please say something "Anytime" to your Doctor.  As a very last resort if you have gone through (something like the increase/decrease pill procedure to many times, or change meds) something that you are not happy with for awhile with your Doctor" you can always get a 2nd Opinion from another Doctor and possibly a Switch.  I got a good referral from the Epilepsy Foundation Local office near me for a switch 5 years ago.  The Epilepsy FoundationLocal offices are more than glad to help you.  They will even refer other people in your local area to contact if you need or would like more info.

Update- I was actually admitted to inpatient neurology monitoring floor to be weaned off Aptiom medicine.  After falling on a faucet while washing my face, losing my balance all the time and a nervous feeling dr. Wanted to admit my and checkout.  They weaned me down on "APTIOM".  FROM 800mg to 400mg dose at the hospital, while being monitored with video EEG for seizure activity 9/28/15 through 10/1/15.  After coming home still noticed some instability so I'm getting weaned off totally and Dr. Knows.

Hi, my boyfriend has epilepsy and he has grand mal seizures very often. I noticed his seizures got worse when he was put on Aptiom, do you think he needs to be weaned off to try and heighten his own bodies tolerance level? Can seizure medications decrease your own bodies defense against seizures. Do you feel aptiom itself could be making his epilepsy worse?
