Anyone Been Through This

Fri, 12/29/2006 - 14:51
I am a 22 year old female and I was recently diagnosed with epilepsy in January of this year.I was doing very well on just topomax until November when I started having five, or six seizures a day. My mom took me to the ER and the doc put me on 300 mg. of Dylantin. Since then I have been having the worst side effects. Dizziness, tiredness, blury vision and seeing weird objects from the topomax, nausea, and extreme thirst. I keep telling myself that it's better to have side effects than to have five seizures a day, but I don't know sometimes. Has anyone gone through this before. -Jordan.

I've never been through that with Dylantin, but I've had bad side effects from other e medications. I'm on Lamictal now, and if I don't eat before I take it, I get double vision, nausea (sometimes so that I can't walk around), and the headaches are more severe. I have to eat before taking it because once I take it, it's too late for food! I've also had bad side effects from other e meds when the dosage has been too high. You may be taking too much medicine or need to eat beforehand. Try eating first. If that doesn't help, ask your doc to lower the dosage.

Thanks for your help. I have tried eating first and it does help a little but it's trying to get myself to eat that's the hard part. I'm so nauseated all the time especially in the morning that it scares me from eating.

I'd definitely talk to the doc about lowering it or changing meds.
