Anticonvulsant Reaction(s)

Granted, this is a forum for epilepsy, but I am going to give it a shot anyway. To start off, I have bipolar disorder rather than epilepsy. Anticonvulsant medications like Depakote have been the mainstay of my treatment for more than 10 years now. Approximately two years ago, I decided to switch off of Depakote to try a different combination of medications due to the fact that the weight gain was just too much to deal with. I am normally around 200lbs and one particularly effective medication combination had me at around 350lbs. Anyway, after many different trials and tribulations, I have a pretty good idea on what types of medications that I need to resolve what symptoms I have. It's not uncommon for a person with bipolar disorder to be on 3-4 different meds at once. Hell, it has taken 15 years to figure the entirety of my mind out. Now here's the rub. As of approximately 8 months ago, every single anticonvulsant med that I have tried ends up with me getting hives, itchy, sensitive skin, and oral thrush. I've tried Lamictal, Trileptal, Topamax, Depakote, and Tegretol. They have all given me the same exact problems as mentioned above. In the past, I have never, ever reacted badly to any anticonvulsant. I have even been on Depakote and Lamictal simultaneously with no ill effect. My psychiatrist agrees with me that there's probably something else going on rather than a sudden intolerance to basically all anticonvulsant meds that are effective for bipolar disorder. What I am asking here is if anyone has any idea on what this problem might be? I am asking in an epilepsy forum because these types of drugs are used exclusively for seizure disorders, and the community here might have some suggestions for me. My current psychiatrist's answer is basically "I don't know." Wonderful. That only leaves me with lithium, which I don't tolerate at all. I was hoping that someone might have an idea of what might be going on so that I can get stable once again. I will post the same thing in a mental health forum, but when it comes to anticonvulsant wackiness, I am thinking that this is the best place to ask. My apologies if some of this doesn't make sense as typing on a mobile device isn't the most practical thing ever.
